Causes of the Revolution:
Economic crisis- food shortage
The Enlightenment
Ineffective ruler (Louis XVI)
Political crisis- reforming the tax system, bankruptcy
The Old Regime:
The Old Regime was the political and social system in France from the Bourbon dynasties. There were three groups the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd estates. The 1st estate consisted of the clergy, the 2nd estate were the nobility and 3rd estate was the peasants and workers. This then was ended by the French Revolution, causing many conficts and wars. The Old Regime could not control the middle class. The Enlightnement authors for example, brought changes to the government of higher taxation. The event that causes the rebellion and rise of the middle class was the overthrowing of the king of France Louis XVI.
